What are the differences between traditional psychiatry and functional psychiatry?

Traditional psychiatry focuses on diagnosing mental health conditions using established diagnostic criteria and treats symptoms, often with medications guided by clinical guidelines, research trials, and standardized protocols.

Functional psychiatry takes a broader view. In addition to addressing symptoms, it looks at the whole person to identify potential underlying factors that may influence mental health. These can include genetics, nutrition, hormones, gut health, inflammation, metabolism, environmental exposures, lifestyle factors, and more. The goal is to better understand the full picture of a person’s health and develop a more personalized treatment plan.

Are you a doctor?

I am a nurse practitioner, in the state of MA commonly referred to as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). I’ve completed graduate-level education and clinical training that allows me to evaluate patients, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, and develop a treatment plan independently without physician supervision.

Do you provide therapy?

We are a psychiatric practice, not a therapy practice. Our visits are focused on psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and functional care. Patients are encouraged to work with a therapist as part of a well-rounded treatment plan. We deeply value therapy and often collaborate with or refer to licensed therapists as part of a comprehensive care plan. If you need help finding a therapist, we're happy to point you in the right direction.

During our visits, supportive therapeutic approaches may sometimes be incorporated when appropriate.

Are visits in person or telehealth?

At this time, visits are primarily conducted through secure telehealth, allowing you to attend appointments from the comfort of your home.

In accordance with state licensing regulations, patients must be physically located in Massachusetts at the time of their visit.

What training do you have in functional & integrative psychiatry?

I have completed extensive continuing education in functional and integrative mental health and continue to do so.

This includes certification in Nutrition and Mental Health through Massachusetts General Hospital, coursework through the Institute for Functional Medicine (a global leader in functional medicine education), and participation in an extensive and ongoing functional psychiatry fellowship that includes clinical discussions, faculty mentorship, and direct learning with James Greenblatt, a board-certified adult and child psychiatrist and internationally recognized pioneer in functional psychiatry.

Why are functional medicine services self-pay?

Our functional medicine program membership is separate from standard insurance-covered psychiatric care. Within this program, we provide in-depth assessments, help you manage your health concerns, and work toward your personal wellness goals. However, this work isn't tied to DSM diagnosis or psychiatric medication management, which is what insurance is designed to reimburse. Instead, we focus on root-cause exploration — things like nutrition, gut health, hormones, inflammation, and lifestyle — and offer personalized supplement and wellness recommendations. Because this level of care lives outside the traditional insurance model, it's available as a transparent, self-pay membership. It's a dedicated space for the deeper work that a standard psychiatric visit simply doesn't have room for.

What is the cost of the Functional Psychiatry membership?

The Starter Package — $1,250 Investment
Intake + Lab Review + One Follow-Up Visit · Save $75
All new functional medicine patients begin with the Starter Package. Your intake, lab review, and first follow-up are all connected pieces of the same picture — the work that happens in each appointment builds directly on the last. Separating them doesn't serve your care.
The Starter Package is required for all new functional medicine patients. Individual follow-up visits at $225 are available once the package is complete.

Services + Pricing
Functional Medicine Intake — $675
90-minute appointment
A comprehensive deep-dive into your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. We'll identify what to investigate, order targeted labs, and build a personalized care plan together. This is not a rushed intake — it's the foundation of everything that follows.
Lab Review + Follow-Up — $425
45–60 minute appointment
Once your results are in, we'll go through them together in detail. You'll leave with a clear picture of what your labs mean, what we're addressing, and what comes next.
Follow-Up Visits — $225
30-minute appointment
Ongoing check-ins to track your progress, adjust your plan, and continue building toward your goals. Available to established patients after the Starter Package is complete.
Booking + Payment Policy
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot. The remaining balance is due prior to your intake appointment. All three appointments must be scheduled at the time of purchase.
The Starter Package must be completed within six months of your intake date. Cancellations made within 72 hours of a scheduled appointment are subject to a cancellation fee. The deposit is non-refundable regardless of cancellation timing.
A Note on Investment
Functional medicine is an investment in understanding your health at a level most people never get access to. These visits are longer, more thorough, and more personalized than a standard appointment — and the preparation that happens outside of your session is just as important as the time we spend together.
The Starter Package is priced to be accessible while reflecting the true depth of this work. Pricing will be updated as the program evolves.
